This page shows you how to install SendDollar, turn on your license, and set up Zelle, Venmo and Cash App at checkout. It also covers how orders move from placed to paid, how automatic payment matching works, and fixes for common problems.
Requirements: WordPress 5.8 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer, WooCommerce 5.0 or newer (tested up to 9.6). Automatic payment matching also needs the PHP IMAP extension on your server. Current version: 1.4.0.0.
Install the plugin
SendDollar needs WooCommerce. Install and activate WooCommerce first.
- Download the SendDollar zip file from your account. Do not unzip it.
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
- Click Upload Plugin at the top of the page.
- Click Choose File and pick the SendDollar zip file.
- Click Install Now.
- When the install finishes, click Activate Plugin.
- A new SendDollar menu now shows in the left side of your admin.
Activate your license
Your license key turns on plugin updates and ticket support. SendDollar keeps working without a key, and no features are locked. Only site administrators can see the License page.
- Find the license key in your purchase email. It looks like YWPG-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
- In your WordPress admin, go to SendDollar > License.
- Paste your key into the License Key box.
- Click Activate License.
- The page now says License Active. It shows how many sites use the key and when the license expires.
- To move the license to another site, click Deactivate License here first. Then activate it on the new site.
- Click Check License Status at any time to refresh what the page shows.
License notes
Until you enter a key, a notice shows on the Plugins screen and on the SendDollar pages. Click Enter license key to go to the License page. Click Remind me later to hide the notice for 12 hours.
You can also reach the License page from the License link under SendDollar on the Plugins screen.
If WooCommerce is not active, the SendDollar menu does not load. In that case you enter your key at Settings > SendDollar.
If your license expires, the License page shows a Renew License button. The plugin keeps working, but you stop getting updates and support until you renew.
First-time setup
Each payment method is turned on and set up on its own. Turn on only the apps you really use, so customers are not confused at checkout.
- Go to SendDollar > Settings. This opens the Zelle settings in WooCommerce > Settings > Payments.
- Check Enable Zelle Payment Gateway.
- Enter your Zelle Email Address, your Zelle Phone Number, or both.
- Read the Payment Instructions box and edit it if you want. Keep the {order_number} and {order_total} placeholders.
- Set the Payment Timeout. This is how many days a customer has to pay. The default is 3 days.
- Click Save changes.
- To add Venmo or Cash App, go back to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments and open Venmo or Cash App. Turn it on, enter your Venmo Username or $Cashtag, and save.
- Place a test order on your store to see the checkout box, the thank-you page and the order email.
- Optional: set up automatic payment matching. See the Automatic payment matching section below.
Settings for every payment method
Zelle, Venmo and Cash App each have these settings. Find them at WooCommerce > Settings > Payments, then open the payment method. Each method keeps its own values.
- Enable/Disable
- Shows this payment method at checkout. Off by default.
- Title
- The name customers see at checkout. Defaults to Zelle, Venmo or Cash App.
- Description
- Short text customers see under the title at checkout. Empty by default.
- Payment Instructions
- Steps shown on the thank-you page and in the customer order email. Use {order_number} and {order_total} and they fill in for each order. Each method comes with its own default steps.
- Payment Timeout
- How many days the customer has to pay before the order is cancelled. Default is 3 days. You can set 1 to 30 days. If you enter less than 1, it resets to 3.
- Debug Log
- Turn on Enable logging to save payment events to a log for this method. Off by default. Find the logs at WooCommerce > Status > Logs.
Zelle account settings
These settings tell customers where to send Zelle payments. You must fill in at least one of them or customers will see an error when they try to pay with Zelle.
- Zelle Email Address
- The email address on your Zelle account.
- Zelle Phone Number
- The phone number on your Zelle account. Optional if you enter an email.
Venmo account settings
Venmo needs a username. With a username set, the thank-you page shows a Pay with Venmo button and a QR code. The amount and order number are filled in for the customer.
- Venmo Username
- Your Venmo username, like @yourusername. Required. Customers send payments to this account.
- Display Name
- Optional friendly name shown next to your username, such as your store name.
Cash App account settings
Cash App needs a $Cashtag. With a $Cashtag set, the thank-you page shows a Pay with Cash App button and a QR code.
- $Cashtag
- Your Cash App $Cashtag, like $yourcashtag. Customers send payments here.
- Display Name
- Optional name shown next to your $Cashtag, such as your business name.
Email Setup settings
Find these at SendDollar > Email Setup. They connect SendDollar to the mailbox that gets your payment alerts from your bank, Venmo or Cash App. One set of email settings covers all three payment methods.
- Quick Setup
- Buttons for Gmail, Outlook/Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and iCloud Mail. Click one to fill in the server, port and encryption for you.
- IMAP Server
- The mail server address, like imap.gmail.com.
- IMAP Port
- Default is 993. Usually 993 for SSL or 143 for TLS.
- Encryption
- SSL, TLS or None. Default is SSL, which is the safest choice.
- Validate SSL Certificates
- Checks the mail server's security certificate. On by default. Only turn it off if your mail server uses a self-signed certificate.
- Email Address
- The email address that gets your payment alerts.
- Password / App Password
- The password for that mailbox. Gmail, Yahoo and other accounts with 2-step login need an App Password, not your normal password.
- Auto-Verify Payments
- Approves an order on its own when a payment email is a strong match. Off by default. When it is off, matched payments wait for you to review them. Only turn this on if your mailbox has strong spam and spoofing filters, such as Gmail or Microsoft 365.
- OAuth Provider
- None (Use Basic Authentication), Microsoft (Outlook / Office 365) or Google (Gmail). Default is None. Pick Microsoft or Google to sign in with OAuth instead of a password.
- OAuth Email Address
- The email address to sign in with. It should match the Email Address above.
- OAuth Client ID
- The Client ID from the app you created in Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Console.
- OAuth Client Secret
- The Client Secret from that same app.
- Redirect URI
- A web address SendDollar gives you. Click Copy and add it to your app's Redirect URIs in Azure or Google Cloud.
- OAuth Connection Status
- Shows Connected or Not Connected. Use Connect to sign in, Test Connection to check it, and Disconnect to remove it.
How payments and orders work day to day
Zelle, Venmo and Cash App do not tell your store when money arrives. Each order waits until you, or automatic matching, confirms the payment.
When a customer picks Zelle, Venmo or Cash App, the order is placed with the status Pending SendDollar Payment. Stock is held for that order right away.
The thank-you page shows where to send money, the exact amount, the order number and your payment instructions. Venmo and Cash App also show a Pay with button and a QR code. The page also shows the date the customer must pay by.
The customer's order email shows the amount, the order number and your payment instructions. For Venmo and Cash App it also has a Pay with button.
On the thank-you page and in My Account, the customer can upload a receipt or screenshot. Files can be JPG, PNG, GIF or PDF, up to 5MB. They can also enter a Transaction / Confirmation ID. Both are added to the order notes.
Go to SendDollar > Pending Payments to see every order that is waiting. You can filter by All, Pending or Partial, and by payment method. Each row shows the amount, time left to pay and any receipt.
Check your Zelle, Venmo or Cash App account. When the money is there, click Approve. If the payment never came or is wrong, click Decline.
You can also approve or decline from the SendDollar Payment Verification box on the order edit screen, or with the Approve Payment and Decline Payment bulk actions on the WooCommerce Orders list.
When you approve, orders that need shipping move to Processing. Orders with only digital or virtual products move to Completed. When you decline, the order moves to SendDollar Payment Declined and the stock goes back.
If the customer does not pay before the Payment Timeout runs out, the order is cancelled on its own and the stock goes back.
If a customer sends less than the total, click Record Partial and enter the amount received. The order moves to Partial Payment Received and the customer gets an email with the balance due. The cancel timer pauses for partial orders. When the rest arrives, click Record Balance to finish the order. You can also click Approve to accept the partial payment as full payment.
SendDollar orders are counted in WooCommerce Analytics.
Automatic payment matching
SendDollar can read the payment alert emails that your bank, Venmo and Cash App send you. It then tries to match each payment to a waiting order.
What you need: a mailbox that gets your payment alerts, IMAP access to that mailbox, and the PHP IMAP extension on your server. Your web host can tell you if IMAP is turned on. Use a mailbox that is only for payment alerts if you can.
SendDollar reads Zelle alerts from your bank, Venmo alerts and Cash App alerts.
Each payment gets a match score. The score goes up when the order number is in the memo, when the amount matches the order total, and when the sender name matches the customer. A Transaction ID the customer entered is the strongest match.
If Auto-Verify Payments is on and the match score is high, the order is approved for you and a note is added to the order. If Auto-Verify Payments is off, the payment is held for you to review.
Payments that cannot be matched, or need review, go to SendDollar > Unmatched Payments. Each row shows the date, amount, sender, memo, bank and match score. Click Match to Order to link the payment to the right order and approve it.
If a payment is smaller than the order total, SendDollar can mark the order as a partial payment. When the balance arrives later, it can match that too.
Go to SendDollar > Monitor Status to see if monitoring is Active or Disabled, when the last check ran, when the next check runs, and what the last check found. Click Check Emails Now to run a check right away.
Up to 20 emails are handled in each check. Any extra emails are handled in the next check.
Tell customers to put only the order number in the memo or note. It makes matching much more accurate.
Uninstall and what data is removed
Deactivating SendDollar stops its scheduled checks but keeps all your settings and data. Deleting the plugin from the Plugins screen removes its data.
- Settings
- Zelle, Venmo and Cash App settings, Email Setup settings and OAuth app details are deleted.
- License
- The saved license key and license status are deleted from the site. Deactivate the license first if you want to use it on another site.
- Saved payment data
- The list of unmatched payments and saved email sign-in tokens are deleted.
- Order details
- SendDollar details saved on orders are deleted, such as receipt links, transaction IDs and partial payment amounts. The WooCommerce orders themselves stay.
- Scheduled tasks
- Email checks, the order timeout check and license checks are removed.
